Fall, 2007

Welcome back, Snowbirds!

The next big project coming up is resurfacing the common area walkways and decks, as we discussed in the last newsletter. The Board is close to finalizing the contract for the new coating. The floors and decks must be waterproof to protect the structural integrity of the building. The interior walkways are still in good condition but all the exterior walkways have deteriorated and must be fixed. This will be started soon. It's a huge but necessary project and will require a special assessment. For complete details, check the minutes of the October 23 Board meeting on the Sunwatch website.

The Annual Meeting and election of officers is coming up shortly, and before that date I would like to thank the current Board of Directors for their excellent service. The individual members of the board spend countless unpaid hours, working to maintain or improve the building. We are lucky the volunteers on the Board are willing to donate their skills to make the building better for all of us. Jo Warn is an active hands-on President; Bob Burwell is a banker who maintains our financial records and is also the secretary for the Association; Joe Giacomini is an engineer who understands exactly the technical needs of the building; Sue Clark and George Powers are generalists who are willing to pitch in as needed. They all work to keep the building clean and running in good operating order, so you can go to the pool, use the exercise room, enjoy the lovely landscaping, and so on, effortlessly.

Does that mean you don't have any responsibilities? Not exactly. You don't have to mow the grass, haul the trash out to the curb, or clean the pool. But we're living in a society and you need to think about others who live here. Your mother isn't here to clean up after you. If you drop something, pick it up. If your dog makes a mess, clean it up. And if you use the nice grocery carts we have available for your convenience, for heavens sake, don't just leave them in front of the elevator or in front of the doors outside the garage. Put them back in their designated stalls.

In addition, owners, please be aware of the security of the building. Don't let strangers into the building. Visitors must call upstairs and be admitted by their host. If you see suspicious activity or people who clearly don't belong in the building, call the Clearwater Police.

Home for the Holidays

It's a little early, but we want to remind you about the annual Island Way Holiday Lights contest. We're on a roll here, folks! We have won first place for condominiums four times. Let's try to win again. Decorate your unit with small white icicle lights so all our balconies look the same. It would be so great to get everyone's participation. The annual Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, December 8, and it will be quite festive to see our building blazing. And speaking of the holidays, please remember John and Judy generously.

This and that
